We are profoundly saddened to see the devastation caused by recent hurricanes, earthquakes, flooding, and famine in East Africa, Mexico, the Caribbean, the U.S., and South Asia. The fair trade community is mobilizing to support our partners in the affected regions.
Your help is needed. The following is a list of Fair Trade Federation members, who are collecting funds or donating to aid those affected:
Mexico Earthquake Relief – Cielo Hammocks and their non-profit arm Fundacion Cielo have been fundraising and delivered goods and food to those affected by the Earthquake in south Mexico, including Hammocks. This is a very impoverished region and conditions are harsh. Your contributions to the RedCross Mexico will help alleviate those most pressed for help.
India Flood Relief – Nomi Network is on the ground, providing food, water, and shelter to families in areas ravaged by monsoon rains. The rains have affected 41 million people in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal with current death toll of over 1,200 people.
Hurricane Harvey Coffee Donation – Twin Engine Coffee is support relief efforts in Texas by sending coffee to Police Departments and Fire Departments in areas that were flooded. They have set up a product on their website where you can donate, listed on their website as the “Hurricane Donation Pack.”
African Famine Relief Fund – Serrv is both raising funds for African famine relief efforts as well as donating 5% of their sales. The famine is currently affecting nearly 27 million people in East Africa. It is an under reported humanitarian emergency and one of the most life-threatening food crises since World War II.
